English, 1769-1825 English painter. The son of a bookseller, he was educated at the grammar school in Ludlow and was sent to London in 1786 to study under Charles Catton the elder (1728-98), coach painter to George III and founder-member of the Royal Academy. Owen's copy of a work by Reynolds, made soon after his arrival, attracted the latter's attention. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1791 and exhibited at the Royal Academy the following year. From then on he exhibited there every year, apart from 1823 and 1825, and was elected ARA in 1804 and RA in 1806. He painted a number of rural scenes but specialized in portrait painting. Although his reputation was eclipsed by that of Thomas Lawrence, he was sought after by many of the eminent figures of the day, producing portraits of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr William Howley (1813), and of the politician and essayist John Wilson Croker (exh. 1812; both London, N.P.G.); other of his sitters were William Pitt the younger and John Soane. In 1810 he was appointed portrait painter to the Prince of Wales (later George IV) and in 1813 principal portrait painter to the Prince when the latter became Prince Regent. The Prince Regent does not seem to have sat to him but nonetheless he offered Owen a knighthood, which the painter refused. From c. 1820 Owen's health deteriorated until a disease of the spine confined him to his room and finally rendered him incapable of painting. Egron Sellif Lundgren, född 18 december 1815 i Stockholm, död 16 december 1875 i Stockholm var en svensk konstnär och författare. Hans lite egendomliga förnamn är givet av en omtänksam fader som önskade sin lille nyfödde ett rofyllt liv, eg-ron. Egron Lundgren kan betecknas som den svenska akvarellkonstens fader. Han började först som oljemålare där han utförde genremålningar och historiska framställningar i tidens anda. Under sina många resor till Italien, Spanien och Indien fann han dock sitt rätta uttrycksmedel i akvarellen vars teknik han utvecklade till ett mästerskap. Han bosatte sig i mitten av 1850-talet i London där han hade stora framgångar som porträttmålare. Med London som utgångspunkt företog han sedan ytterligare resor både till Italien och Spanien men även till Egypten och Indien. Hans reportagemålningar från sepoyupproret i Indien anses utgöra en av höjdpunkterna i hans produktion. Hans akvarellteknik utvecklades med åren till en snabb, upplöst teknik i rena, klara färger och lätt penselföring. England med sina dimhöljda öar kom till fullt uttryck i arbetena från hans många resor. Sina sista år tillbringade Egron Lundgren i Stockholm men också därifrån fortsatte han sitt resande. Mest känd för en sentida publik har han blivit genom sina brev och dagboksanteckningar, utgivna under titeln En målares anteckningar 1 - 2 Egron Lundgrens väg i Södra Ängby, Stockholm är uppkallad efter Egron Lundgren.
Luca Giordano
Italian Baroque Era Painter, ca.1634-1705 Italian painter and draughtsman, active also in Spain. He was one of the most celebrated artists of the Neapolitan Baroque, whose vast output included altarpieces, mythological paintings and many decorative fresco cycles in both palaces and churches. He moved away from the dark manner of early 17th-century Neapolitan art as practised by Caravaggio and his followers and Jusepe de Ribera, and, drawing on the ideas of many other artists, above all the 16th-century Venetians and Pietro da Cortona, he introduced a new sense of light and glowing colour, of movement and dramatic action.
Alfred Dedreux
1810-1860,French painter and draughtsman. His father was the architect Pierre-Anne Dedreux (1788-1849); Alfred's sister, Louise-Marie Becq de Fouqui?res (1825-92), was also an artist. His uncle, Pierre-Joseph Dedreux-Dorcy (1789-1874), a painter and intimate friend of Gericault, took Dedreux frequently to the atelier of Gericault whose choice of subjects, especially horses, had a lasting influence on him. During the 1820s he studied with L?on Cogniet, although his early style was more influenced by the work of Stubbs, Morland, Constable and Landseer, exposure to which probably came through Gericault and the painter Eugene Lami who lived in London in the mid-1820s.
